On Friday, October 5, a small group of us went down to Rice University to enjoy a free symphony concert by Rice’s Shepherd School of Music. The concert featured music by Ravel, Gershwin and Sibelius.
Maybe because it was Rice’s homecoming weekend, the concert hall was packed. We had seats in the gallery, looking down and facing the conductor. It was different from the typical perspective, but we really enjoyed seeing the expressiveness of the conductor’s face during the performance.
The Shepherd School has performances going on throughout fall and spring semesters, and most of these are free. You can check out their performance calendar here.
We all had a great time and hope to do it again soon. Scroll down and flip through some photos from the evening.
