2019 Nawroz Party

Did you ever have any questions about Nawroz (Persian New Year)? We did, too. But we got some of those answered at the ICX March 2019 Nawroz Party. Nawroz is celebrated by various peoples, primarily in Iran, Central Asia, the Balkans and the Black Sea Basin. The holiday originated in Zoroastrianism.

It is the day of the vernal equinox, and marks the beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere. Nowruz is the first day of Farvardin, the first month of the Iranian solar calendar, and it usually falls on or near March 21.

One of our friends from Iran shared that the holiday is typically marked by a thorough house-cleaning, the visiting of familiy and friends, and the eating of traditional foods. Regarding food, there are 7 items set out that all start with the letter “s” that represent wishes for the new year.

We had a good time eating together, learning together, and (for a few brave ones) even dancing together! Check out the pictures below.
